What I learned from FIRST®
That girls can be engineers. Yes, it's daunting when you walk into that first robotics meeting and seeing a male-dominated environment, but if you can make progress in that, then you can do it just as easily when you walk into your first physics lecture, where 95% of your lecture hall is male. Engineering isn't a man's job, it's a designer's job.

Bio
Sven has been a crucial part of the build team since he first joined the Kinetic Knights in Gr. 9. His designs have been used on several of our robots and he has trained many team members over the years. Sven's dedication to the team is evident in everything he does, whether it be convincing Justin Trudeau to check out the robot or driving that same robot all the way to the World Championship Finals. 2011 was a huge year for FIRST® Team 781 and as build captain, Sven was a huge contributor to that success. It takes excellent leadership to make it to Einstein and we were lucky enough to have that in Sven. We can only hope that he will come back to teach us some of his German magic.
During the off-season, Sven works on his family's organic farm. He is fluent in both English and German. Sven recently won the University of Waterloo's FIRST® Mechatronics scholarship. Sven also enjoys watching movies with friends. His favourite movie is The Room, which he has watched at countless robotics competitions. Sven placed in the top 20% nationally on the Sir Isaac Newton physics contest and in the top 10% on the Euclid contest.
